Effortless Measuring, Perfect Fit

At FQL Curtains, we make measuring simple and stress-free. Use our Measurement Tool to find the perfect size in minutes — or follow our easy 3-step guide below to get precise measurements for your custom curtains.

Step 1: Measure Your Window or Door

Mount your rod or track at the ideal height for your desired look.

For a more elegant, spacious feel, we recommend installing the rod as close to the ceiling as possible.

To allow space for stacking and minimize light leakage, let the rod or track extend 6–15 inches beyond each side of the window frame.

Tip: If you want to keep the full window view, plan for the stack-back space before finalizing your width.

Step 2: Determine Curtain Panel Width

Flat Top Styles

(Includes Grommet, Rod Pocket, Back Tab, Tab Top, and Flat Panel)

Per Panel Width = Rod/Track Width × Fullness ÷ Number of Panels

Pleated Top Styles

(Pinch Pleat – Double/Triple, Euro Pleat – Double/Triple)

Per Panel Width = Rod/Track Width ÷ Number of Panels

Ripple Fold

Per Panel Width = Rod/Track Width ÷ Number of Panels*

(This indicates the top finished width when hung. The bottom fabric width is about 2.1× of the top width.)

Note:

If you don’t have a rod or track yet, add 6–15 inches on each side of your window width to estimate the proper rod or track size.

Step 3: Determine Curtain Panel Length

Flat Top Styles
Panel Length = Height Above Rod + Rod-to-Floor Height + Bottom Preference

Pleated Top Styles
Panel Length = From Curtain Top to Floor + Bottom Preference

Ripple Fold
Panel Length = From Bottom of Track to Floor + Bottom Preference

Bottom Options

½" Above the Floor: –½"
Kiss the Floor: 0
Puddling: +2" to +4"

*Check the bottom options in the glossary below for more details.

Before You Measure — Read Our Curtain Glossary

Curtain Panel Type
  • Split Panel: Two equal panels that open from the middle.
  • Single Panel: One piece that draws to one side or stays stationary for decorative use.
Curtain Fullness

1X Fullness: Completely flat. Not recommended.

1.5X Fullness: This is not full enough unless you are just covering the window and never shutting the curtains.

2.0X Fullness: What we highly recommend. Being practical for a nice pleated look.

2.5X Fullness: Features a lush look full of rich pleats. Sheer curtains live out loud with this style.

Example:

A 42" wide panel covering 42" area = 1× fullness (flat).

An 84" wide panel covering 42" area = 2× fullness (beautifully draped).

Curtain Bottom Style

Defines how the curtain touches or drapes near the floor:

  • ½" Above Floor: Practical and modern.
  • Kiss the Floor: Classic tailored look.
  • Puddling: Romantic and soft, ideal for decorative setups.
Stack Back

“Stack back” refers to the fabric width gathered on each side when curtains are fully open.

This depends on fabric type, lining, and pleat style.

To enjoy a clear view, consider the stack-back width when deciding your rod or track length.

If Your Size Exceeds the Fabric Limit

Our premium fabrics have a roll width of approximately 110 inches.

  • Rotation: Used to extend curtain length beyond 104".
  • Splicing: When both width and length exceed standard fabric limits, two panels are joined seamlessly. Slight, well-placed seams are part of standard professional craftsmanship for oversized drapes.
